overdue

Yes it's been so long.  Between dead camera batteries and kids who wanted to be super whine-y while I was trying to video them, it's been a rough road for this blogging mom.
ANYWHO, here are 2 pictures and 3 videos of 2 cute kids enjoying 2 ice cream cones:

and sometimes they both just look SO BLOND I can't believe it.

Bubby

We've taken to calling James "Bubby".   Lena nicknamed him that one afternoon and it stuck.  She's all into made-up words and pretending now.  She has also told me on several occasions that I have a "French baby" in my belly, so there's that too.

James has yet to say a real word in English.  He knows all sorts of animal noises though.  His favorite is a lion.  He roars all day.  For a little while the answer to every "what does a (insert animal name) say?" was "Raaaaaaaaaah!!!"  I enjoyed that phase (see video below).

Lately he does the appropriate animal noise for each species.  His version of a cat noise is particularly funny though because for whatever reason it comes with this face:

watch and see:

I think it's only appropriate that this kid is learning to speak in the language of wild animals first.  They seem to be his kin.  Growling, throwing, running, banging, yelling... just an average afternoon for Bubby and all the other wild monkies out there.

Lena Says #12

This one's for Mike's Pittsburgh family....

Scene:  I am sitting at the table going through some bills, kids are playing on the floor

Lena:  Mom, the ribbons are mean.

Me: What? What do you mean?

Lena: The ribbons are mean.

Me:  Ribbons?  Ribbons aren't people so they're not nice or mean...  do you mean "ribbons"?

Lena:  No (insert eye roll), ribbons are at Uncle Matty & Aunt Kristin's (they have a craft room).  The ribbons are mean because their mommies didn't hug them enough.  The Steelers are nice.

Me: WAIT, do you mean the "Ravens"?

Lena:  yea, like football

Me:  Ohhhhh, I see.  One day Daddy told you the Ravens are mean and the Steelers are nice, right?

Lena: Yep.

Me:  hahahahahaha!  (text to mike at work about successfully brainwashing his daughter)

Lena says #11

On our way to visit a potential Pre K open house for next year.

Lena: "Mom, you're bringing me in and then going home, right?"

Me: "No, I'm going to stay with you"

Lena, audibly a bit distressed by this:  "But why?!  No, I want to stay with the teacher and you just drop me off."

Me:  "I know Bean, but this is like practice school so the mommys have to stay, but don't worry, I'll just stay in the back and talk to Jacob's mommy, you just play with everything and have fun, ok?"

Lena: "ok."

We then had almost the exact same conversation a few days later when going to visit another PreK.  Who's ready for school?!

missing the mark

Ugh.  So I have all these funny videos of James to post but I can't find my camera.  It's here in the living room somewhere and I think a certian 1 yr old  and 2.5 yr old hid it on me.  I've now been looking for it for 4 days.  It's getting ridiculous.

In other Roth news, tonight James dove head first into the corner of a wall.  The kid is a maniac.  He immediately developed an egg on his head the size of, well, an egg.  And egg with a black & blue line running down the middle of it where he hit the wall.  After 15 min of him (and to a lesser degree, Mike) FREAKING OUT he calmed down and wanted to run all around the house again.  Doctor says I should wake him up in a few hours to be sure it's not a concussion but we're pretty sure he's got too hard a head for that.  And actually it's funny because where the egg is on his forhead/eyebrow area makes his eyebrow slant downward giving him a one-eyed-mad-face look.  It's funny in an "aww poor little lunatic" sort of way.  I'd show you a picture but, you know, no camera.  Ho hum.
